The storied Main Branch of the New York Public Library at 42nd St and 5th Ave. Not only is the library a Beaux Arts architectural masterpiece and home of the famous Rose Reading Room, it also features prominently in such films as Ghostbusters, Escape from New York, and Beneath the Planet of the Apes!
Oh yes. We are just a few days away from ROLLER SKATING at the High Line's 30th St Lot. Shine up your skates and break out your best moves! Here's some shots of the crew getting things together over at the rink.
I was going to post something else today, but with temperatures busting upwards of 100 degrees, I thought these shots from the water park at Hershey Park would be much more appropriate. Stay cool out there!
I recently had an assignment shooting architecture in and around Times Square. I spent two days getting my shots in the early morning and evening when the light was nice. To kill time in the middle of the day, I went to see Elliott Erwitt at ICP, cooled off at the NYPL, laid low in Bryant Park, and generally walked around trying to overcome my NYer's jadedness with the area. I have to say it is not without its charms! Here's a selection of street shots from those two days.
Yesterday was a great "Sea Cliff" day. Took the kids out for breakfast, went to opening of show in town, hit the pool for the afternoon, then down to the beach to catch the last rays of the summer sun...
Here's what Section 2 of the High Line looked like back in early March! Warm weather, some rain, and a few months of construction and planting make a big difference, right?
In the tradition of last year's 4th of July shot, an outtake from the Nikon D80 campaign, I present you with another D80-era photo. The old masters (Robert Frank, William Klein, et al) were a big inspiration for this shot. Happy 4th!
I just hung a 20"x30" print of one of my favorite photographs from the past year, "Boats", at my hometown library. It was part of the body of work I completed as Hasselblad's H4D-40 NYC photographer of the month for August 2010. If you're in the neighborhood and you'd like to see it in person, stop by the Sea Cliff NY library for the exhibit, "The Beauty of Sea Cliff". The exhibit will be up through August.
Friday! Last day of vintage camera week. Here's another one of my yard sale finds: a Polaroid Onestep Close-up. According to Amazon.com, "the camera offers a contemporary design and snaps Polaroid's signature instant images. It features focus-free simplicity and an automatic flash with a 2-10 foot range. It also offers a selectable close-up lens for shots between 2-4 feet." I couldn't have said it better myself. I got mine for $1 from my next-door neighbor and my daughter used it later in the day to shoot her half of our Polaroid duel.
